XR Badminton: Multi-Stroke Neuro-Symbolic Virtual Reality Coaching Platform

Project Summary

An adaptive VR badminton coaching system featuring high-fidelity aerodynamics, multi-stroke kinematics with Holt-linear state filtering, dynamic body-scaled target calibration, and full-body IMU tracking.

RESEARCH OVERVIEW & DETAILS

Project Scope & Details

XR Badminton combines standalone Quest 6-DoF tracking with a 12-IMU Sony Mocopi full-body suit to capture true forward-kinematic bone vectors across a 5-stroke taxonomy (Smash, Clear, Drop, Drive, Lift). An ArmReachCalibrator dynamically computes body-scaled targets, mathematically eliminating stature bias, while a neuro-symbolic verbalizer delivers real-time biomechanical feedback.

ARCHITECTURAL & SCIENTIFIC HIGHLIGHTS
01.

Five-Stroke Biomechanical Taxonomy

Full kinematic state machine covering Smash, Clear, Drop, Drive, and Lift strokes with Holt-linear velocity filtering.

02.

ArmReachCalibrator Normalization

Dynamic anthropometric scaling eliminates height and stature bias, standardizing scoring across players of all statures.

03.

12-IMU Mocopi Full-Body Motion Capture

Dual-sensor fusion combining Quest 6DOF controllers with 12 inertial body trackers for accurate forward-kinematic reconstruction.

04.

Inverted Aerodynamic Drag Simulation

High-fidelity quadratic shuttlecock aerodynamics replicating real-world high-drag trajectory physics in virtual courts.
